YÖS

What is the YÖS?
The YÖS stands for "Yabanci Uyruklu Öğrenci Sinavi". Foreign students who intend to study engineering, medicine, dentistry, and other fields at Turkish universities can apply for admission to the desired university by obtaining a high score at YÖS exam. Since 2011, most of the prestigious universities in Turkey have designed and held their own YÖS exams. But as decided by the Turkish Government, this exam will be held centrally in 2023, but no more information has been received yet.

Note that admission to master's and doctoral programs is a separate process and has nothing to do with the YÖS exam.
Preconditions
The YÖS exam is only for non-Turkish citizens. So, the first condition for taking the YÖS exam is being a citizen of a country other than Turkey.
The second condition for taking the YÖS exam is either having a high school diploma or being a fourth year high school student.
Language of the exam
This exam is held in Turkish, but some universities offer it in English, Russian or Arabic too.

Number of questions
Generally, this exam includes 40 intelligence questions, 35 math questions, and 5 geometry questions. Some Turkish public universities do not follow this scheme and the number of questions may be different.
Duration
The time for answering questions varies between 90 and 135 minutes
Validity of results
The YÖS exam is held only for admission to Turkish universities and the results are valid generally for one academic year after the exam date.
Score
The maximum score of YÖS exam is 100 and its questions are in multiple choice format. Each question has 5 choices and for every 4 wrong answers, one correct answer will be removed.
Note that the YÖS system will change as of 2023.
